Youth Programmes

We provide a weekly youth programme for young people aged 12-19.    We provide safe environments which encourage young people to:

  • understand and embrace who they are
  • understand and respect others who are different to them
  • have a voice in all things that relate to or effect them
  • lead projects (designing, implement and evaluate projects)
  • gain lifeskills such as communication skills and cooking skills (view our Youth Master Chef page)

Our Youth programme operates on Wednesday nights 6:30-8:30pm at the Miramar Community Centre.  We have 2-3 youth workers on site all times.

Quality relationships

We don't subscribe to short term quick fixes to some of the complex issues facing our youth, families and communities.  We ensure our young people have a safe place to engage with other youth and youth mentors throughout their their teenage years.  Ensuring whanau are involved in our programme is also important.  This may be as small as the whanau knowing who we are and what we are doing, and can expand to include whanau volunteering at our programmes.   As youthworkers we realise the importance of collaborating with other youth programmes, health providers and community organisations who have important resources and relevant information for our young people.

Strengths Based Youth Programmes

Strengths based youth programmes mean we start by focusing on the positive skills our youth possess.  This ensures our youth gain a positive sense of self, feel valued and are in a better position to take on new learnings and opportunities going forward.
